Wardrive-UC privacy policy
How Wardrive-UC handles your data. In short: no accounts, no ads, no analytics or trackers, and everything is stored on your phone.
1. Summary
- Wardrive-UC has no accounts, ads, analytics or trackers.
- Your data is stored only on your device. We do not send your data to any server of ours or of third parties.
- Data only leaves your phone when you choose to export or share a file.
2. What data the app uses and why
All of this information is stored in your device’s local database:
- Precise location (GPS), only while the app is open: to place networks on the map and center it.
- Information about nearby Wi-Fi networks (SSID, BSSID, channel, frequency, security type and signal strength): to build the map.
- Imported files (KML/CSV): to merge other people’s maps with yours.
- Session names: to organize your scans.
The app does not access your contacts, photos, microphone, camera or messages, does not use location in the background, and does not connect to the networks it detects.
3. Android permissions
- Precise location (
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION): required by Android in order to return Wi-Fi scan results. It is only used while the app is in the foreground. - Nearby Wi-Fi devices (
NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES, Android 13+): needed to scan. - Wi-Fi state and change (
ACCESS_WIFI_STATE,CHANGE_WIFI_STATE): to start scans and read their results. - Internet (
INTERNET): only to download the base map images.
4. Third-party services
To display the map, the app downloads tiles from OpenFreeMap (with data from © OpenStreetMap) and the MapLibre GL library from unpkg.com. Those services receive your IP address and the map area you are viewing, but does not receive your GPS location or the list of networks.
5. How data is shared
We do not sell or share your data. When you export and share a KML or CSV, the file goes to whoever you choose and becomes subject to that destination’s policy. Keep in mind that those files contain the locations of the networks you recorded.
6. Retention and deletion
- Data is kept until you delete it. You can remove sessions and imports from the LOOT.
- When you uninstall the app, Android removes all of its information.
- Files you exported stay wherever you sent them.
7. Minors
The app is aimed at people over 18 and is not intended for children.
8. Security
Data is stored in the app’s private storage, inaccessible to other apps. Map downloads are made over HTTPS.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make changes, we will update this page and the “last updated” date shown above.
